EmCare data breach could affect 60,000, including contractors

A data security breach at Dallas-based healthcare outsourced services company EmCare Inc. exposed the personal information of some patients, employees and contractors.

An unauthorized third party on Feb. 19 gained access to a number of employee email accounts with names, dates of birth or age, and for some patients, clinical information. Social security and driver's license numbers were also exposed in some instances. 

Bloomberg reported personal information of as many as 60,000 individuals, including 31,000 patients, many have been exposed.

EmCare stated it launched an internal investigation, notified individuals who may have been affected and implemented additional security measures to prevent future occurrences.
