South Korea – Temporary employees down 0.9% in April, jobless rate rises

The number of temporary employees in South Korea fell to 4.92 million in April 2019, a decrease of 0.9% when compared to 4.87 million in the same period last year, according to data published from Statistics Korea.

At the same time, the unemployment rate stood at 4.4% in April, up 0.3% year-on-year. The number of unemployed persons increased by 84,000 or 7.2% year-on-year.

Job cuts within the manufacturing sector contributed to the unemployment rate in April.

Meanwhile, the number of employed persons went up by 171,000, or 0.6% year-on-year.

South Korea’s labour force participation rate stood at 63.6% in April, up 0.1%, year-on-year.
