South Korea – Number of temporary employees down 0.6% in May, jobless rate steady

The number of temporary employees in South Korea fell to 4.95 million in May 2019, a decrease of 0.6% when compared to 4.98 million in the same period last year, according to data published from Statistics Korea.

Meanwhile the unemployment rate stood at 4.0% in May, remaining the same year-on-year. The number of unemployed persons totalled 1.14 million people in May, which increased by 24,000 persons or 2.2%, year-on-year.

Data from Statistics Korea also found that the number of employed persons totalled 27.32 million persons in May, which went up 259,000 persons or 1.0%,  year-on-year.

The employment-population ratio recorded 61.5% in May, up 0.2% year-on-year. The labour force participation rate stood at 64.0% in May, up 0.1% year-on-year.

By sectors, the Mining and Manufacturing sector reported a decrease of 1.8%, year-on-year.
