South Korea – Number of temp employees down 1.7%, unemployment rises

The number of temporary employees in South Korea fell to 4.91 million in July 2019, a decrease of 1.7% when compared to 5.00 million in the same period last year, according to data published from Statistics Korea.

At the same time, the unemployment rate stood at 3.9% in July, up 0.2% year-on-year. The number of unemployed persons increased by 58,000 or 5.6% year-on-year.

The number of employed persons went up by 299,000 persons or 1.1% year-on-year.

The employment rate in Mining and Manufacturing fell by 2.2%. Meanwhile, the biggest increase was seen in ‘Business, personal, public service & others’.

South Korea’s labour force participation rate stood at 64.0% in July, up 0.4%, year-on-year.
