Singapore – Job mismatches decline 8% over past 4 years: Indeed

17 September 2019

The gap between job postings and jobseekers in Singapore declined from 44% in January 2015 to 36% in May 2019, according to data from Indeed.

Indeed’s data found that talent shortages in Singapore still exist, particularly for technology roles such as software engineer, software architect, full-stack developer, and data scientist. These roles are seeing an increase in job ads from companies.

The role with the greatest talent shortage was software engineer, according to Indeed.

Mismatch in Singapore has gradually declined over the past four years,” Callam Pickering, economist at Indeed, said. “Today around 36% of jobseekers would need different job titles on their resumes in order to have the same distribution as job postings. That’s down from around 44% of jobseekers four years ago. Indeed data reveals a dynamic jobs market in Singapore. The island nation is positioning itself as a technology hub, which is readily observable in our data.”

Pickering told Tech Wire Asia that the decreasing mismatch “indicates that the job market in Singapore has adjusted to the needs of businesses and more talent is available with the right skills.”

Singapore’s labour market is growing according to the latest report published earlier this month from the Ministry of Manpower.
