Philippines – Government to issue guidelines on foreign jobseekers (ABS-CBN News)

11 June 2019

Several Filipino government agencies will jointly craft a set of guidelines on the employment of foreign nationals in the Philippines, reports ABS-CBN News. The announcement comes amid the influx of foreign workers, particularly Chinese nationals, in the country and concerns that they might take over jobs supposedly for Filipinos. Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that among the considered requirements for foreign nationals are an alien employment permit, a working visa, and a tax identification number before they can be permitted to work in the country. Labour Chief Silvestre Bello III said the top foreign nationals working in the country are the Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans, with the majority employed in administrative support, offshore gaming operations and business process outsourcing.
