India – Festive season flexi staff hiring continues amid muted job growth (Times of India)

10 October 2019

Flexi staff hiring in India is expected to see a 10-15% rise over last year's volumes this festive season, reports the Times of India, citing data from the Indian Staffing Federation. Growth is expected especially in job roles such as delivery personnel and support functions, supply chain and logistics operations. Rituparna Chakraborty, President, Indian Staffing Federation and Co-founder of staffing firm Teamlease, said, “While a few sectors have subdued sentiments, others like e-commerce, food tech, fintech, BFSI (banking, financial services, and insurance), retail, and consumer companies are maintaining steady momentum in hiring.” Marco Valsecchi, Country Manager and Managing Director of Adecco Group India, said there is a marginal dip in the overall hiring sentiment this year signalling muted job growth across some sectors. Valsecchi added, “At this time of the year, seasonality of the festive season is driving the demand for flexi workforce.”  The demand for temporary staff in India typically begins from the Onam festival in Kerala (early September) and lasts up to New Year’s Eve.
