Australia – Seasonally adjusted jobless rate stable in August

Australia’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in August 2019 stood at 5.3%, no change when compared to the same period the previous year, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The data also showed that there were 716,800 unemployed persons in August, an increase of 2.2% compared to the same period last year.

On a month-to-month basis, the unemployment rate increased by 0.1%.

At the same time, the number of employed persons stood at 12.92 million in August, an increase of 2.5% compared to the same period last year.

The labour force participation rate increased by 0.5% year-on-year to 66.2%.

Monthly hours worked in all jobs increased by 2.0% to 1.78 billion hours.
