Australia – SEEK buys graduate jobs start-up GradConnection

12 February 2019

SEEK, the Australian job board (ASX: SEK) announced that it has acquired Sydney-based graduate job marketplace GradConnection.

The acquisition will see SEEK buy 100% of the start-up for an undisclosed sum.

According to the Australian Financial Review, GradConnection was launched in 2008 by New Zealanders, Mike Casey, Dave Jenkins and Dan Purchas, who came to Australia to launch a graduate job website.

The platform helps link student and graduates with job opportunities as they come into the workforce. GrandConnection said all of its services are completely free to students and graduates.

SEEK said the acquisition is a move to target young jobseekers finishing up their education.

"Our goal is to be career partners for Australians," SEEK Australia and New Zealand managing director Kendra Banks told The Australian Financial Review. "We want to be able to support candidates with relevant advice and opportunities through all stages of their career."

Banks added that the aim of the acquisition was to bring jobseekers into SEEK's environment even earlier than they already do and keep them in its portfolio of services their whole careers and said there will eventually be opportunities to explore how SEEK can use GradConnection and its SEEK Learning business together.

Dan Purchas, GradConnection director, also commented, “With SEEK's investment and advanced technological capabilities we are looking forward to growing our digital offering to employers across Australia.”
