05 February 2019

More than a third, or 38%, of Dutch millennials expect to still be working at the age of 70, according to research from ManpowerGroup Netherlands.

The study, which surveyed more than 1,100 millennials in the Netherlands, found that on average 41% of men expect to work past 70, while this was the case for 35% of women, however this number varied by region. Only in the south (zuid) region did more women feel this expectation over men (43% vs 36%).

Meanwhile, the study also found that most of millennials are willing to invest time (94%) and money (75%) in their professional development, in order to have the right skills amid increasing digitisation and flexibility.

The majority of millennials, or 82%, say they are satisfied with their current job. The three most important reasons are the salary, great colleagues and a good future perspective.  On average, men (84%) were more satisfied than women (80%).

When it comes to the most important factors when choosing a job, salary was at the top for both men and women.

ManpowerGroup also found that millennials prefer to work 33 hours a week with men on average preferring 35 hours and women 30 hours.
