Telemarketers, virtual assistants see biggest jumps in demand; design jobs fastest shrinking

Telemarketing and virtual assistant roles saw the biggest increases in demand in the first quarter of this year compared to the fourth quarter of 2018, according to the “Fast 50” report released today by online staffing platform Freelancer.com.

The report looks at the job types where demand is growing fastest as well as jobs where demand is shrinking fastest among Freelancer.com users.

Overall, the 10 fastest-growing roles included:

  1. Telemarketing: Demand for telemarketing jobs rose 32.8% to 1,960 jobs in the first quarter compared to the fourth quarter.
  2. Virtual Assistant: Requests to fill these roles rose 30.9% to 6,241.
  3. CodeIgniter: This is an open-source PHP framework built for developers and used to create dynamic websites. Demand for this skill rose 26.2% to 1,815.
  4. Customer support: Demand for these workers rose 25.8% to 2,490 jobs.
  5. Metatrader: This is an electronic platform that allows the trading of different products The number of jobs for skills in this platform rose 25.1% in the first quarter to 1,314 jobs.
  6. Unity 3D: Another technology tool, Unity 3D is a graphics engine used to create 3D games and applications. Jobs here rose 24.5% to 2,499.
  7. Email handling: Deamnd was up 23.5% to 1,831 jobs.
  8. Google Adwords: Demand for skills in this area rose by 21.0% to 3,188 jobs.
  9. Web search: Jobs here rose by 20.9% to 8,631 in the first quarter.
  10. Internet research: Interest in this skill rose with an increase in jobs of 20.7% to 2,276.

The fastest-shrinking jobs includes those in design, where demand fell 38.0% to 829 jobs, and Bitcoin, where demand fell by 36.0% to 702 jobs.
