Tech areas maintain lowest jobless rates in June among all US metros

Technology areas posted the lowest jobless rates among all large metropolitan areas in June, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Austin-Round Rock, Texas, metropolitan area along with the San Francisco and San Jose metropolitan areas in California posted jobless rates of 2.7% each in June — the lowest rate among all US metropolitan areas with populations of more than 1 million.

New Orleans’ metropolitan area posted the highest unemployment rate among all metros in June at 5.0%.

Among metro areas of all sizes, the Burlington-South Burlington, Vermont, metropolitan area posted the lowest jobless rate at 1.9%. It was followed by the Idaho Falls, Idaho; Midland, Texas; and the Portsmouth, New Hampshire-Maine metro areas at 2.1% each.

The highest jobless rate among all metropolitan areas was in Yuma, Arizona, at 19.6%.
