Seattle looking at independent contractor wage law (Crosscut)

April 19, 2022

Seattle is proposing a minimum wage for independent contractors on B2C work services platforms such as Uber, DoorDash and others, according to a report in Crosscut. However, the proposal has raised concerns. “Worker earnings in this sector are highly complex and, if regulated poorly, can adversely impact a broad ecosystem of merchants, customers and workers,” said Molly Jones, Washington Technology Industry Association’s VP of public policy, according to Crosscut. “We are concerned this ordinance fails to take into consideration sufficient stakeholder consultation and learnings and data from industry partners.”
