New York governor calls for investigation into payroll company

September 10, 2019

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday called for an investigation into the sudden shutdown of payroll firm MyPayrollHR. Some news reports indicate that temporary staffing firms were affected by the shutdown.

“The sudden and unexplained shutdown of MyPayrollHR in Clifton Park is disturbing and completely unacceptable,” Cuomo said in a statement. “Its reckless actions have left employees across the state and the nation with negative bank accounts and forced businesses who depend on its payroll services to scramble to find ways to compensate their employees.”

Cuomo called on the Department of Financial Services to investigate the company’s actions.

The (Albany, New York) Times Union newspaper reported a Facebook support group for people who have been affected had grown to more than 1,800 members over the weekend. Pay deposited into workers’ bank accounts had been withdrawn, according to the report.
