The number of mass layoff actions fell in August to 1,189 from 1,221 in July, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Workers cost an average of $27.75 per hour

U.S. employers paid on average $27.75 an hour in wages and benefits in June, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Wages and salaries averaged $19.38 an hour, or 69.8%, and benefits averaged $8.37 per hour, comprising 30.2%.
