Technology Research Director

We have a unique opportunity for a senior research analyst to make an immediate impact on a dynamic industry. You will join a group of dedicated business professionals who, together, constitute the premier source of research, information and analysis on the booming staffing industry, contingent workforce management and the workforce solutions ecosystem. In the role of Technology Research Director, you will conduct a wide variety of analyses and write research reports and articles to help executives make better business decisions relating to all types of digital recruitment technology from front and back office software to job boards, sourcing automation tools, recruitment chatbots, engagement platforms and more.

About the Position
In this high-profile role, you will have the opportunity to establish yourself as the global authority on talent acquisition technology. The Technology Research Director will be accountable for executing research projects, performing analyses, writing reports and providing analytic support to customers. Compensation will be competitive. Based out of either our US or UK offices, responsibilities include:

  • Developing unsurpassed expertise in all aspects of talent acquisition technology and the broader impact of technology on the staffing industry. This will include a deep understanding of the relative merits and benefits of different technologies to assist SIA clients in their investment strategies.
  • Building general expertise on the impact of technology on staffing and contingent work through monitoring of relevant news, research studies and industry developments including (but not limited to) artificial intelligence, blockchain, big data, cloud and mobile computing, the digitization of work/automation, integration issues and the digital recruitment strategies of staffing firms.
  • Producing periodic comprehensive reports that communicate key business intelligence and analysis in clear and precise language supported by relevant charts, graphs and tables as well as originating and verifying supporting data from primary and secondary sources.
  • Researching and writing frequent thought-provoking analyses on current technology events and trends as they relate to the Workforce Solutions Ecosystem to produce unique content of practical value to our customers.
  • Attending and participating in SIA conferences and assisting as needed with any or all conference planning activities, including speaker recruitment and support work related to the development and construction of tech-related speaker presentations.
  • Participating in data collection via surveys and manipulation of publicly available data, in support of group projects.
  • Developing additional technical expertise as required, possibly including mastery of software and/or staffing industry business practices, quickly and with minimum assistance.
  • Working closely with co-workers to develop extensions of current research product offerings as well as assisting in the development and planning for new research related offerings. Specifically, liaison with the following personnel:
    - SIA’s Global Workforce Solutons Director in support of research reports on vendor management systems (VMS), freelancer management systems (FMS) and applicant tracking systems (ATS), and
    - SIA’s Research Manager in support of research reports on the Human Cloud (especially online staffing platforms).
  • Representing SIA by speaking about technology related trends at external events.
  • Providing thought leadership on the use of research and analysis for current and future products to deliver to Staffing Industry Analysts' customers. 

Basic Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Research Skills – You have extensive experience, at least three years, in a technology-related role within, or associated with, the staffing industry with a deep technical understanding of the software underpinning talent acquisition technology product categories.
  • Writing Experience – You are an excellent writer and have business writing experience, including writing research reports and articles for an executive level business audience.
  • Communication Skills – You are comfortable interacting with CEO’s and top executives of business organizations to learn and understand their agenda and determine what research will be of most use to them in solving business problems.  You are outgoing and comfortable in establishing a network of contacts to inform your research output and fostering good internal relationships within SIA. You are able to communicate the results of your research both in writing and orally to business executives in a succinct and compelling manner.
  • Visualization of data – Your general analytical and mathematical problem-solving skills are excellent. You exercise good judgment when using various chart types, tables and diagrams and are highly skilled in using Microsoft Excel and/or other software to analyze data and create graphics to communicate key research findings. You have a keen eye for visual detail. Your final work product has a finished look.
  • Flexibility – What you don’t already know, you are eager to learn. You enjoy challenges. You can pick up new skills and get to grips with new issues as needed.
  • Intelligence – You can investigate and answer unfamiliar questions through original and creative analyses that generate perceptive value-added insight. You have the ability to become an acknowledged industry expert on the human cloud and all technology-related matters that will impact the staffing industry.
  • Business Experience – You have a good understanding of business and spent three or more years working in positions conducting significant quantitative and qualitative business research and analysis in a technology role.
  • Vision – You can see both the forest and the trees and can master the details that need to be delivered in the short term while keeping the big picture in mind and focusing on the most critical elements for long-term success.

Preferences
A major plus would be experience in or with one or more of the following:

  • Familiarity with SIA research (including SIA methodology, research standards, and report production)
  • The staffing industry, preferably in an international or global capacity
  • A technology role within a staffing firm such as CIO, a software vendor, or a related technology consulting role
  • Contingent staffing/workforce/HR/labor issues
  • Procurement issues
  • An analyst firm (e.g. Gartner, Corporate Executive Board, IDC, Forrester, etc.)
  • Bachelors or post-graduate degree
